On 14 February members of Monitoring Committee of ‘Modernization of Local Public Services’ (MLPS) implemented by German Development Cooperation through GIZ met in a working meeting. The goal of the session was to discuss the project results and progress in the October-December 2016 period and activities planned for 2017.

The event was attended by representatives from Ministry of Regional Development and Construction (MRDC), Regional Development Agencies (North, Centre, South and TAU Gagauzia), development partners and MLPS co-financing partners, as well as, MLPS project advisors.

Anatol Usatii, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Construction and Chair of MLPS Monitoring Committee: „This kind of meetings is very useful, for we can discuss joint events and activities, as well as challenges that could appear. Year 2017 will be an intense one, especially because of the beginning of implementation of projects in energy efficiency in public buildings and water supply and sanitation areas with EU funding support. That is why we should have a realistic plan, with clear responsibilities and coordinated by all involved parties”.

Alexandr Muravschi, MLPS/GIZ National Leading Policy Advisor on Policy Coordination on Regional Development: „Since the launching of MLPS project six years ago we can speak about concrete achievements. This fact is also mentioned by the central authorities of the Republic of Moldova. We are currently in the second phase of MLPS project. The financing is in place, all we need is to get mobilized to be able to absorb it.  There is a lot to achieve which means the responsibility will have to, also, increase. The most important is that on the central level it is comprehended that the regional development is one of the major priorities of the country”.

During the meeting, MLPS/GIZ advisors talked about the achievements and challenges encountered in the four intervention areas of the project during the reporting period. They also mentioned the activities planned for 2017 and pointed out the issues that might appear in the future identifying, at the same time, the possible solutions in this respect.

The project ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) is implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ and is financially supported by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Swedish Government, the Romanian Government, the European Union and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
