It was reviewed and updated the operational plan of the pilot project ‘Improving water supply and sanitation in Rascani rayon’ with funding from the German Government.

Thus, a team of specialists involved in the project’s implementation and a representative of the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction who was also part of it, attended within the premises of North RDA a workshop organized to determine the implementation degree of activities from the project’s operational plan.

Liuba Babalau, a specialist in the development, implementation and monitoring of projects in North RDA and Svetlana Caliniac, GIZ regional advisor in North RDA informed the working group members on the current status of the project on water supply and sanitation in Costesti and Valentina Pleşca, GIZ national advisor, presented the concept of creating an efficient and sustainable public service of water supply and sanitation. ‘The project is at its second phase of implementation, which means that local authorities from Rascani rayon and specialists from North RDA will have more responsibilities’, noted Valentina Plesca.

Gathered in the workshop, working group members have updated the project operational plan by the end of 2014, and named the responsible persons for carrying out planned activities.

‘The success story for the pilot project on water supply and sanitation in Duruitoarea Veche village deserves to be expanded step by step throughout Rascani rayon. The project can serve as an example for many rayons in the country, both in Development Region North and in other regions’, said North RDA Director, Ion Bodrug.

Reconstruction of the water pipe of Duruitoarea Veche was fully completed in August 2012 and was inaugurated on 6 September 2012. Shortly, there was held the final acceptance of the work. The goods obtained from implementing the project were sent to the final beneficiary, LPA Costesti in October 2012. Besides infrastructure optimization measures, the project has contributed to the optimization of the operational capabilities of the service provider ÎMDP ‘Apa-Canal Costesti’. 4130 inhabitants ​​of Costesti town, including 470 in the village of Duruitoarea Veche are beneficiaries of the project.

The project ‘Modernization of local public services in the Republic of Moldova’, within which the project on drinking water supply and access to sanitation system was implemented in the village of Duruitoarea Veche is implemented by GIZ and is supported by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. Overall value of the pilot project, currently being in the second stage of development, is EUR 1,117,306, of which EUR 13, 875 from the Community’s financial contribution.
