On 20 April 2016, the President of Ungheni Rayon Guzun Ludmila, accompanied by a group of mayors paid a documentation visit to Soldanesti Rayon. The purpose of the visit was to exchange waste management experience and good practice. The pilot project “Improvement of Solid Waste Management Services in Soldanesti and Rezina Rayons” funded by the German Government through the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) as part of the project “Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova” was implemented in Soldanesti Rayon.

Thus, the representatives from Ungheni got familiarized with the phases of implementation of the regional project for improvement of waste management services in Rezina and Soldanesti Rayons. The visit continued at the Joint Stock Company “Salubrizare Soldanesti” established as part of this project, where the director of the joint stock company described the overall activity of the service. The participants also exchanged experience with good practice implemented in Sestaci village, where the Mayor of the locality, Iacob Guja, had talked them about awareness and sensibilization campaigns carried out by the mayor’s office leading to disciplining the population, successful waste management in the locality.

In Ungheni Rayon the existing sanitation service is to be extended with support of GIZ partner as part of implementation of the sector regional program for solid waste management.
