Center Regional Development Agency in partnership with the German Development Cooperation through GIZ, held today in Orhei a workshop/roundtable ‘Energy Efficiency in Hospitals – exchange of experience’.

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction and representatives from all rayon hospitals around the country, where a presentation was made on the energy management system and intelligent energy monitoring system implemented in Orhei rayon hospital. The Guides on the energy monitoring system were developed with Swedish support.

Orhei Hospital received funding for energy efficiency, provided through KfW and GIZ (German Development Cooperation through GIZ). The pilot project ‘Increasing energy efficiency in Orhei Regional Hospital’ is implemented by the Center Regional Development Agency (Center RDA) and the first phase of 2011 – 2014 is to completion, the amount of investment in energy efficiency measures being MDL 6312.00 thousand.

‘Increasing energy efficiency in Orhei Regional Hospital’ project was named as the Best Project in Energy Efficiency in the public sector for 2012. Due to projects implemented in recent years, Orhei Rayon Hospital has managed to become a model of energy efficiency. Beyond that last year the institution has saved over MDL 400 thousand, the hospital has become more attractive to patients from other rayons. Although the hospital is called rayonal, the impact of the project is regional. The medical institution is considered a model of energy management and manages to attract patients from three other neighbouring rayons: Soldanesti, Rezina and Telenesti.

This year, it has been approved for implementation by Center RDA a similar project for increasing energy efficiency in Nisporeni. The Development Region Center continues to benefit from the support of international donors, by whose contribution the living standards are increased.

This workshop was part of the European Sustainable Energy Week in Moldova.
