In Leova rayon was held the constitutive meeting of the Local Steering Committee (LSC) of ‘Modernization of local public services (MLPS) of water supply in Leova rayon’ project
The meeting was attended by Valerian Binzaru, head of the Directorate General for Regional Development of the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction (MRDC), Maria Culeşov, Director of South Regional Development Agency (South RDA), Valentina Plesca, National Senior Advisor on Local Public Services within the German Development Cooperation through GIZ and representatives of local public administration (LPA) level I and II, Environmental Agency, Public Health Centre and civil society organizations from Leova.

During the meeting, GIZ regional consultant, Andrei Tocaru presented MLPS project in WS Leova. Also, the participants discussed the text of the Regulation of Local Steering Committee, which is annexed to the Memorandum of Understanding signed on 8 May 2015 by MRDC, GIZ, South RDA and Leova Town Hall. According to the LSC Regulation, were elected the president of LSC – Ion Gudumac, Leova rayon president; and LSC Secretary – Ilie Condrea, head of DEDTAI of Leova Rayon Council.

It was also discussed to identify and appoint a local manager and the possibility of financing him/her by the involved parties. It was decided that within 60 days Leova Rayon Council will organize and spend the contest appointing the local project manager.

In the second part of the working session, LSC members have approved amendments for the Project Implementation Plan annexed to the Memorandum of Understanding and quarterly report on the activities carried out under the project for the third quarter.
 
The next meeting of Leova LSC is planned for the second half of December, where it will be presented the activity report of the MLPS Leova project for the fourth quarter of 2015.
The project ‘Modernization of local public services of water supply in Leova rayon’ is one of the eight pilot projects in Moldova, funded by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ and implemented in partnership with MRDC, RDAs and LPAs.

This project aims to supply water to Leova rayon and provides for construction of the main water pipe Leova – Iargara that will connect to the first stage Leova, Iargara, Filipeni, Romanovca, Cupcui, Sarata Noua localities, and subsequently another 30 localities from Leova rayon. The overall objective is to improve the living conditions of the population in Leova rayon by providing qualitative water supply services. The first stage beneficiaries of the project are over 12 thousand inhabitants of Iargara, Filipeni, Romanovca, Cupcui, Sarata Noua localities and over 10 thousand residents of Leova town. The next step beneficiaries will be over 50 thousand people from 30 localities of Leova rayon. The project’s budget is EUR 2.580.000.
