The constituent meeting of the Local Steering Committee (LSC) of Modernization of Local Public Service Project (MLPS) in the Solid Waste Management (SWM) sector in the Floresti rayon of the North Development Region took place in Balti on 18 March 2015.
The meeting was attended by Sergiu Cecan, head of Relations with regional development institutions Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction; Ion Bodrug, Director of North RDA; Constantin Bandiu, Head of Project Management Section of North RDA; Valentina Plesca, national senior advisor on local public services (GIZ); Procopii Sura, deputy president of Floresti rayon; Grigore Cojocaru, mayor of Floresti town; Nicolae Rusu, director of ‘Servicii Salubrizare Floresti’ JSC [Floresti Sanitation Services], representatives of the 1st and 2nd level LPAs, representatives of the Environmental Inspectorate, of the Public Health Centre, Police Inspectorate, Department of Emergency Situations of Floresti rayon and representatives of the Local Citizens Committee of Floresti rayon.
The MLPS project in SWM for the Floresti rayon was presented at the meeting, and based on the Memorandum of Understanding approved on 16 December 2014, the signatories have discussed the operational plan for implementing the pilot project ‘Improving solid waste management services in Floresti rayon’.
The Local Steering Committee of the abovementioned project shall serve as a platform to ensure a better cooperation between the key stakeholders in the project implementation in particular and in the regional development policy in general.
The Committee members examined and approved the Regulations of operation of the LSC.
According to the LSC regulation, there were elected the following persons: Procopii Sura, Vice President of Floresti rayon, was elected to be the LSC president, Grigore Cojocaru, Vice Mayor of the town of Floresti, was appointed as LSC Vice-President and Aliona Manole, president of Education and Science Trade Union of Floresti rayon was appointed as LSC Secretary.
The matter of hiring a project manager has also been discussed.
The participants agreed to hold the next meeting in compliance with the terms of Regulations of the Local Steering Committee, following the approval of funding for this project.
