On 22 April, a group of journalists visited two development projects from Centre Region carried out by Centre Regional Development Agency (Centre RDA). The first visited object was the road from Varzaresti, Nisporeni rayon, which was built under the project ‘Development of transport infrastructure for revaluation of Centre Development Region’s touristic potential’. Here journalists met with President of Nisporeni rayon, Verdes Ghenadie, Mayor of Nisporeni town, Ion Gangan and project manager, Tipa Savelie. Journalists interviewed project’s beneficiaries who were very satisfied with the changes that occur in the locality and suggested to local authorities to make efforts to achieve more beautiful things for the people.

Drinking water treatment plant in Manoilesti commune was the next destination for the group of journalists interested in the regional development process. This object was built under the project ‘12,000 people supplied with drinking water in 12 localities’, where is developed a system of drinking water supply for the following localities: Manoilesti, Untesti, Alexeevca, Lidovca, Cetireni, Floritoaia Veche, Floritoaia Noua, Grozasca, Novaia Nicolaevca from Ungheni rayon. Here journalists discussed with the project manager, Ion Negura and the mayor of Manoilesti commune, Grigore Popa. The journalists were convinced that the water issue is crucial, as because of the high content of fluorine in current water consumption, there have been already registered several cases of infection among the population.

Afterwards, media representatives visited the gymnasium of Manoilesti commune, that was connected to the water pipe built within the project. The gymnasium’s director told journalists about the need of water in the institution in order to develop current works. Cooks and children were very happy that the institution is now connected to the water pipe. Until recently, children had no possibility to wash their hands and cooks were bringing buckets of water from nearby wells to prepare food for children.

We would like to recall that the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction signed a collaboration agreement, according to which AIP will conduct several activities to help journalists/media institutions and active bloggers, to document better on regional development issues, to strengthen knowledge and analysis capacity through communication and interaction with relevant experts and beneficiaries of regional development.

The activities are conducted within the project ‘Promotion of objective journalism and increase media literacy of inhabitants from the regions of Moldova’ financed by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ and selected as a result of an open competition for grants, for media networks and NGOs.
