A high level advisor with European expertise in regional development will act within the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction. Matija Derk will provide advice in regional development to the minister of Regional Development and Construction under the ‘European Union Mission on Public Policy Advice for Republic of Moldova’ Programme.

Matija Derk was selected as high level advisor as a result of a competition organised by the European Union Delegation in Chisinau. Until recently he acted as an assistant to the minister of Regional Development and EU funds in Croatia. The expert, also, worked for 7 years as director of a Regional Development Agency where he dealt with strategic planning and international programming.

This morning, Matija Derk had his first official meeting with Vasile Bitca, minister of Regional Development and Construction and the two discussed the main objectives and perspectives of the ongoing program.

‘For Moldova, regional development is an important field. We are happy to have the support of all our development partners in order to achieve a balanced development of country’s regions and ensure a decent living for our citizens and modernize local public services. Mr. Derk’s experience is welcome in circumstances, where we are permanently in search of identifying new opportunities and regional development projects which would provide for economic and social development of regions’, Minister Bitca stated.

The EU high level Advisor was appointed in the context of launching of the fourth stage of the ‘European Union Mission on Public Policy Advice for Republic of Moldova’ Programme.
