On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, in Ungheni took place the inauguration event of the renovated building of the “Mihai Eminescu” Theoretical Lyceum and the water supply and sewage system in mun. Ungheni rehabilitated and extended under the European Union (EU) funded project “Construction of water supply and sewerage infrastructure and energy efficiency in public buildings”.

The event was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, representatives of the German Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, representatives of the Centre Regional Development Agency (RDA), GIZ Moldova, local public authorities, representatives of the construction company, residents of Ungheni and representatives of civil society.

Thus, with the support of the European Union, about 1200 students and more than 100 teachers from “Mihai Eminescu” Theoretical Lyceum in mun. Ungheni benefit from better study conditions and a more comfortable working environment, and more than 34 thousand Ungheni inhabitants benefit from access to improved water supply and sanitation services.

The total value of the energy efficiency works is about 2.9 million EUR, of which 2.8 million EUR – provided by the EU, and 98,000 EUR – local contribution.

‚Mihai Eminescu’ Theoretical Lyceum has benefited from modernisation measures such as insulation of external walls, replacement of windows, renovation of the roof, rehabilitation of the internal heating system and sanitary facilities, ventilation system, heating plant and external heating networks, modernisation of the kitchen, installation of photovoltaic system for electricity production, provision of domestic hot water, renovation of the courtyard.

The total value of the water supply and sewerage project in mun. Ungheni is about 2.6 million EUR, of which almost 2.3 million EUR – granted by the EU, and 285,000 Euro – local contribution. 

19.7 km of water pipes (including 876 connections) have been extended and rehabilitated and over 8 km of sewerage network (including 507 connections to the sewerage network) have been extended. Also, three wastewater pumping stations were built.

The EU-funded measures implemented by the RDA Centre were accompanied by activities supported by the German Government for the development of energy management capacities, new infrastructure and services, upgrading of the water testing laboratory and leak detection equipment.

The energy efficiency works for the ‘Mihai Eminescu’ Theoretical Lyceum in mun. Ungheni and the rehabilitation and extension of the water supply and sewerage system in the mun. Ungheni were financed by the European Union and implemented by the Centre Regional Development Agency under the ‘Construction of water supply and sewerage infrastructure and energy efficiency in public buildings’ project. The project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ Moldova) in partnership with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development. The total budget of the project is 39.8 million EUR.
