The Minister of Regional Development and Construction, Vasile Bîtca, and KfW project manager for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia, Petar Gjorgjiev, have signed a financing agreement between the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction (MRDC) and the German Bank KfW. The project involves conducting a feasibility study for upgrading the water treatment plant in Cahul and assessing the possibility of connecting several localities to the existing system in Cahul rayon. The signing of the agreement was attended by Her Excellency, Mrs Ulrike Knotz, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Moldova, and by specialists from the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction.

Minister Vasile Bîtca thanked the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany and KfW Bank for supporting Moldova through regional development projects: ‘The support of development partners is very important to us, especially in the areas of water and sanitation, which will enable our citizens to live a better life’.

Her Excellency, Mrs Ulrike Knotz said that Germany is and will remain a development and cooperation partner for the Republic of Moldova. ‘The study will be conducted by KfW – an institution with a very good reputation in the field. I am certain that you have found an ideal partner and wish you great success with the project, so that it would bring much satisfaction to people’.

‘Only ten days ago we have met in this room, and today I came here to sign the financing agreement. This can only mean efficiency, from both sides. If a tango requires two partners, so does efficient collaboration. From our side, you have the commitment to improving the living standard in Cahul rayon”, said Petar Gjorgjiev, KfW project manager for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia. ‘We are happy and grateful for the German Government’s support and assistance. We are sure that we will have an effective collaboration and hope to hold the following meetings in Cahul’, said Cahul rayon President, Avram Micinschi.

As one of the leaders of the German banking sector and one of the largest banks in Europe, KfW Bank is oriented both to the support of the German national economy and the development of countries in transition. The bank has been present in Moldova since 1999, especially in the segment of social infrastructure and of promoting small and medium enterprises through Moldova’s financial sector. This year, KfW has decided to open an office in Chișinău, which shall be subordinated to the KfW Office in Kiev (Ukraine). Appointed as head of Chisinau office was Mr Sergiu Guțu.
