On 3-4 October 2018 a workshop is organised for specialists in the field of water supply and sanitation (WSS) on ‘International experience on planning in the water supply and sanitation (WSS) sector’. The event is attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MARDE), members of Regional Sector Commissions (RSC) in the WSS sector of North, Centre, South and Gaguzia Regional Development Councils (RDC).

The workshop is organised under the ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ and facilitated by international experts in the WSS from Germany, Estonia and Romania. The goal of this workshop is to transfer the knowledge, practice and experience of other countries in terms of planning and regionalisation of WSS services.

Serafima Tronza, senior consultant at MARDE Water Resources Integrated Management Policies Division: ‘We would like to thank GIZ and MLPS project for organising this workshop as there is a real interest in this respect considering the big number of participants attending. Planning is one of the most important elements in WSS field while investments and international partners’ support in this respect are very useful as we take over a lot of knowledge and practices which will help up further in developing this sector’.

Christina Otto, MLPS project manager: ‘The event today is organised in cooperation with the GIZ Regional Office from Berlin, which has helped us identify and invite experts from Germany, Estonia and Romania. The main beneficiaries in this respect are RSCs in WSS field, which are relatively new structures. This is why we decided to invite these international experts so they share their knowledge and experience in the WSS field. The workshop will serve as a platform for discussions and debates to find solutions for future development and cooperation’

During the two days, the participants will find out more information about the planning process in WSS sector in the Republic of Moldova. They will, also, exchange experience with international experts in the field of participative planning and citizens’ involvement in WSS sector in Germany, best practices for participative planning in Estonia and Romania’s experience in regionalisation of water supply and sanitation services.
