On 23 March 2017, at the Calarasi Rayon Council meeting the Energy Efficiency Local Programme for 2017-2019 and Action Plan in the field of Energy Efficiency in rayon public buildings for the current year were adopted. Both documents were developed with German Development Cooperation through GIZ support under the ‚Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) project.

Sergiu Artene, Calarasi Rayon Council president: ‚I would like to give special thanks to GIZ and advisors who helped us in developing these two documents. A great amount of work has been done, let alone the inventory of public buildings. It might seem that these are just some documents, still based on them the investments in energy efficiency will follow having a direct impact on the economic situtatino of the whole rayon’.

Alexandru Marin, energy manager at Calarasi Rayon Council: ‚From economic point of view, the implementation of both documents would save local budget financial means, which could be redirected towards implementation of other energy consumption efficient measures at local level or investments in increasing quality of public services’.

Eugen Pelivan, MLPS/GIZ regional advisor: ‚Calarasi Rayon Energy Efficiency in public buildings Local Programme for 2017-2019 is developed in conformity with provisions of Law on energy efficiency no. 142 from 2010 by which local public authorities level II are required to develop their own energy efficiency proggrammes and action plans’.

Calarasi Rayon Energy Efficiency in public buildings Local Programme has several objectives set for 2017-2019. First of all, it will contribute to rayon administration capacity development in terms of efficient energy consumption in public buildings. Secondly,  it will target raising public awareness on the need of efficient energy consumption in public buildings. And third, emphasis will be put on  efficient energy consumption in public buildings.

The project ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) is implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ and is financially supported by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Swedish Government, the Romanian Government, the European Union and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
