The Minister of Regional Development and Construction of the Republic of Moldova, Vasile Bitca, and His Excellency Artur Michalski, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ambassador of Poland to the Republic of Moldova, accompanied by the leadership of Leova Rayon and representatives of the South Regional Development Agency, made today a documentation visit as part of the project “Construction of the Main Aqueduct Leova-Filipeni-Romanovca”. The purpose of the on-site visit of the two officials was to evaluate the progress achieved in implementing the project.

The project “Construction of the Main Aqueduct Leova-Filipeni-Romanovca” was approved for funding in 2014, from the sources of the National Regional Development Fund; the purpose of the project was to create conditions required to provide with drinking water 3,807 citizens in Filipeni and Romanovca villages.

An important role in achieving the project objectives has been plaid by foreign partners. Thus, under a funding agreement, the Polish Embassy in Chisinau has provided to our country a grant of 85 thousand euros for performance of certain types of works. With the support of foreign funding, water storage reservoirs in Filipeni village, reservoir-related infrastructure and a road of an access to Romanovca village were built.

It worth noting that this project is to contribute to implementation of the Strategy of Leova Rayon in the field of water supply and sewerage, which requires most localities in Leova Rayon to be provided with drinking water from Prut River through the main pipeline Leova-Iargara, its construction being possible due to the support of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

During the visit to Leova Rayon, His Excellency, Artur Michalski, stated that in 2010 Moldova and Poland signed a Memorandum of Regional Development Cooperation and since that time several projects of local development were successfully implemented, including the project “Construction of the Main Aqueduct Leova-Filipeni-Romanovca”. The Ambassador noted that the resources allocated by the Polish party were used efficiently and expressed the willingness of his country to further support Moldova in the regional development.

In turn, Vasile Bitca, the Minister of Regional Development and Construction of Moldova, thanked the Ambassador of Poland and the Polish people for their support.

“Further, with the support of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) the main pipeline Leova-Iargara will be built and we will be able to connect the final consumer to drinking water. Therefore, I express my gratitude to the foreign partners who invest in the regions of our country to improve the standards of living of our citizens and that are confident that the money will be used properly”, Vasile Bitca, the Moldovan Minister of Regional Development and Construction, pointed out.

Offering more details on the project implementation, Maria Culesov, Director of the South Regional Development Agency, was also glad with the achievements obtained so far in the implementation of the project.

“I want to express, on behalf of myself and the South RDA and citizens throughout the region, my gratitude and to thank the Polish people for their help. Indeed, thanks to the support of the Republic of Poland, we managed in shorter time to perform works within the project concerned. In the near future the land use planning in the premises of the reservoirs in Filipeni and Romanovca villages and the construction of a portion of the road in Filipeni will be completed. We hope to start in the shortest period of time construction of the main pipeline Leova-Iargara so that population of Romanovca and Filipeni villages and of the whole Rayon to be supplied with quality drinking water”, the Director of the South RDA, Maria Culesov, said.

We reiterate that the total value of the project “Construction of the Main Aqueduct Leova-Filipeni-Romanovca” makes up 5,747.38 thousand MDL, of which 3,951.33 million MDL are allocated from the NFRD, while 1,796.05 thousand MDL from the part of the Polish Embassy.

Also, at the end of the visit of documentation, the Ambassador of Poland, His Excellency, Artur Michalski, and the Minister of Regional Development and Construction of Moldova, Vasile Bitca,  met at Leova Rayon Council, where the focus was put on the possibilities to foster the Moldovan-Polish cooperation.
