On April 13, 2023, the members of the Steering Committee of the EU Action “Construction of Water Supply and Sanitation Infrastructure (WSS) as well as Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings (EE)” and the Monitoring Committee of the project “Modernisation of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova”, implemented by GIZ met in a working meeting with partners to discuss the progress on the activities during 2022. The participants also discussed the risks and challenges, lessons learned, as well as the key milestones planned for 2023.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, German Embassy, Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Regional Development Agencies (North, Centre, South and ATU Gagauzia), representatives of civil society organisations (CSO).

RDAs presented the main activities undertaken, major achievements, lessons learnt and measures for ensuring the sustainability of EU-funded infrastructure projects. In 2022, seven inauguration events were organised and as of today 14 out of 18 Water Supply and Sanitation and Energy Efficiency projects in public building projects were successfully completed throughout Moldova.

CSOs and RDAs talked about their interventions and support provided to Ukrainian refugees and host communities, measures implemented with German funding. The assistance package for development regions covered measures to strengthen preparedness and response capacities to crisis and emergency situations of Local Authorities, material and psychological support to refugees and equipment for community centres hosting refugees.
