A workshop was held on 13 March of the current year in Cahul, where the action plan for developing the Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS) public service in the rayon of Cahul was presented.

The workshop was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction (MRDC), representatives of 1st and 2nd level LPAs of Cahul rayon, Cahul Apa Canal operator, GIZ (German Development Cooperation) experts and advisors, and a representative of the South Regional Development Agency (South RDA).

Deputy Head of the General Directorate of Regional Development of the MRDC, Mr Igor Malai, said that ‘attendance at today’s meeting confirms the need for capacity development for the LPAs to cooperate, because the WSS sector is paramount for the residents of Cahul rayon, and only together we can settle the issues you encounter’.

During the workshop, GIZ experts Liliana Lucaciu and Ion Beschieru have determined together with the participants the action plan for developing the WSS public service in Cahul rayon and the mechanisms of providing support for implementing the action plan throughout the years 2015, 2016 and 2017.

The participants got involved in discussions on the current situation in the WSS sector, on the progress, challenges and issues they encounter, on the possible solutions and whether the action plan responds to those needs.

This workshop is the start of a process of supporting the implementation of Regional Sector Programmes by facilitating the dialogue between the local actors in charge of providing jointly quality WSS services as stipulated in the Regional Sector Programme for Water Supply and Sanitation for the South Development Region.

It is worth mentioning that these activities are taking place with the support of the German Government, the MLPS project, of the Swedish Government and the European Union.
