On Thursday, 24 December, the final takeover of the sewerage system extension in the private household sector of Costesti Town, Riscani took place within a joint commission meeting of local and rayon public authorities, representatives of RDA North, German Development Cooperation through GIZ, of the company which executed the works and heads of public institutions from Riscani rayon.

As a result of the fourth sub-project completion within the ‘Improvement of Water and Sanitation Services in Riscani rayon’ pilot project, implemented by RDA North, the sewerage system in Costesti town has been expanded by 10,99 kilometers. In addition, 354 manholes have been constructed and connection to the system has been prepared for 450 households. The execution of works began in June 2015.

Ion Bodrug, RDA North director, stated earlier that concerning Riscani Rayon, ‘even bigger plans are in store, including obtaining funds for the development of Feasibility Study for Prut Cluster and a that a number of donors supporting water supply and sanitation projects were informed in this respect’. The Development Region North has the worst indicator in the whole republic in terms of water supply, he added. Currently efforts are made to change this situation.

The sewerage system extension works were executed by Uralis S.R.L. at a cost of over MDL 6 million.

The pilot project ‘Improvement of water and sanitation services in Riscani Rayon’ is implemented by RDA North and financially supported by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania and the European Union, through the ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) project, managed by GIZ. According to MLPS, the total value of the pilot project from Riscani Rayon is EUR 1.117.306 (including, German investments – EUR 1.103.431, local contribution – EUR 13.875).

It is to be noted that on 18 December 2015, within this pilot project, a cooperation agreement for the development of a sustainable water supply and sanitation service (WSS) in Riscani Rayon was signed. Through the signed documement, the Riscani Rayon Council, Costesti Town Council, Alexandresti Communal Council, Braniste Communal Council, Horodiste Village Council, Petruseni Village Council and Pirjota Communal Council decided to jointly develop the WSS services by providing them on the territory of the administrative territorial units, parties to the agreement, as well as, carry out projects on the development of WSS related infrastructure.
