Approximately 30 participants representing civil society organisations took part in a workshop on civil society engagement in the process of modern local public services delivery. The event was organised under the ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ Project, implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ.

Petru Veverita, GIZ/MLPS National Senior Advisor made a brief description of MLPS Project, including lessons learned in the first phase of implementation and mentioned that: ‘…the goal of today’s event is to announce the competition for civil society organisations which will get involved in the process of local public service delivery for projects receiving MLPS Project support’.

Igor Malai, Deputy Head of General Division for Regional Development (MRDC) presented a short background of MRDC role and objectives, underlining the principles of regional development and the relations with Regional Development Councils (RDC), Regional Development Agencies (RDA) and line ministries. In addition, the MRDC representative stressed the important role the civil society organisations must play in the regional development field.  ‘Regional development is a coordinated activity between several actors, among which are local and central public authorities, business environment and of course, the civil society.  This cooperation must influence the change and socio-economic development of country’s communities’, mentioned Igor Malai.

At the event, the terms of reference on the engagement of civil society in the process of local public service delivery, as well as the description and timetable of main planned activities were presented.
