Drinking water from Prut River is supplied to around 15 thousand consumers in three localities. The system has a higher capacity of water supply and is ready for more connections and extensions in the Rayon.
The project budget is EUR 14.6 million, with funds provided by the European Union, the Austrian Development Agency, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The Moldovan authorities have contributed about two million euros.
According to a press-release of the EU Delegation to Moldova, the project is particular because the water taken from Prut River is transported through a raw water pumping station to a modern water treatment plant, operating in line with European standards.
The authorities of the beneficiary localities have created under this project a modern regional water supply operator in the form of a joint-stock company. The operator has an operational plan for the period 2016-2017.
