The German Development Cooperation through GIZ and the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova have signed the Grant Agreement on ‘Preparation of technical design and tender documentation for construction works of selected water supply and sanitation (WSS) and energy efficiency (EE) projects in three Development Regions of the Republic of Moldova’ to be implemented via ‘Modernization of Local public services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) project. The total budget of the Action constitutes EUR 3,500,000 provided by the European Union and EUR 325,000 provided by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development BMZ and is planned to be implemented during a period of 18 months.

The overall objective of the project is increased access of citizens of the Republic of Moldova to the improved local public services in the field of Water Supply and Sanitation and Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings. As a result of this agreement, 10 Water Supply and Sanitation and 8 Energy Efficiency in public buildings projects emerging from the regional planning should be ready for procurement of construction works, for which additional EU co-financing is planned. Final beneficiaries will be citizens from approximately 25 localities of the Republic of Moldova.

It is necessary to mention that European Union’s financial contribution to MLPS project started in 2013.
