On 3-5 October, 4 national and international experts made a visit to Cahul rayon. The goal of the visit was to provide assistance to the water utility operator ‘Apa-Canal Cahul’ in the implementation of the Capacities Development Plan drawn up in 2017. Strengthening of capacities is supported by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ under the ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ project. 

During 3 days, the international expert Darius Bor together with his colleagues, national experts  Mihaela Racov, Sergiu Russu, Mihai Driga, had discussions with the director and employees of JSC ‘Apa-Canal Cahul’ on financial management, technical management and human resources management of the institution. The discussions with the Administration Board of the institution  focused on strategic and organisational management and importance of regionalisation of WSS service in Cahul rayon.

Additionally, Darius Bor held discussions with LPA level I representatives who delegated the WSS service to JSC ‘Apa-Canal Cahul’ and namely with Nicolae Dandis, the mayor of Cahul municipality, Violeta Hincu, mayor of Manta commune, Rodica Cucereanu, mayor of Crihana Veche village on their role in the regionalisation of WSS service and the support they have to provide to the operator.

Darius Bor, international expert (financial director ‘Apa-Serv’ Satu Mare, Romania) mentioned: ‘In the process of regionalisation, communication is key for success. If communication and solidarity are not above the salt, you will not succeed. Knowledge bears fruit when it is shared’.

‘The visit of the experts was very efficient for us, as they will help us in the successful implementation of JSC ‘Apa-Canal Cahul’ Capacity Development Plan’, stated Gheorghe Ghetivu, director of JSC ‘Apa-Canal Cahul’.

Development partners of the Republic of Moldova, such as the EU, the German Government, the Swiss Government, the Romanian Government and other EU states providing financing to increase the access rate of population to water supply and sanitation services and increase the efficiency of the WSS service management place emphasis on strengthening the service operator capacities so it becomes a sustainable and efficient provider for the entire Cahul rayon.
