The 7th workshop in Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS) for the Centre Development Region (CDR) took place in Chisinau on 17 March.

The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction and the Centre Regional Development Agency. The activities at issue are conducted with the support of the German Government, the MLPS project, the Swedish Government and the European Union.

The workshop was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction (MRDC), the members of the Regional Sector Working Group (RSWG) made up of the representatives of the MRDC, the Ministry of Environment (MoE) and the 2nd level public administration authorities from the centre region of the country, representatives of the region’s water supply operators and GIZ representatives.

The RSWG members discussed the next steps regarding the implementation of the Regional Sector Programme (RSP) and the principles for defining the project working groups (PWG) in the WSS sector.

The participants were acquainted with the results of the work of the Inter-Ministerial Commission on WSS, conducted on 11 February.

During the hearing, Marina Gira, a specialist within the Project Management Department of the Centre RDA, presented information on the formation and operation of the RSWG and Project Working Groups. Thus, five project working groups shall be set up within the Centre Development Region, one for each of the five priority projects. Those five viable project concepts (VPC) have been developed for Ialoveni, Hincesti, Calarasi, Ungheni, and Straseni rayons.

GIZ experts provided details on filling in the feasibility study questionnaires for the five priority projects.

The goal of the meetings is to develop a portfolio of investment projects at the regional level. The planning process is conducted by the Regional Sector Working Group made up of the representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction, Ministry of Environment, Rayon Councils under the guidance of national and international experts.

During the 6th workshop on WSS, held on 5 May 2014, the meeting participants were acquainted with the WSS Regional Sector Programme for the Centre Development Region. Afterwards, on 6 June 2014, the RSP on WSS was approved by the Centre Regional Development Council.
