Liviu Oboroc, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Construction attended at the end of last week the meeting on ‘Transnational cooperation within the EU Strategy for the Danube Region’ (EUSDR) that took place in Iasi.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania together with the Consulate General of Romania in Cahul and Bilateral Business Center Romania – Republic of Moldova.

The objective of the meeting was to develop capacity to absorb EU funds in the financing programmes, to be implemented in the 2014-2020 financial perspective, making use of the new cooperation mechanism offered by the Danube Strategy. In this context, the first step was stimulating and effective cooperation between central and local administration institutions, academic environment, businesses and NGOs from the Republic of Moldova and Romania by providing a better understanding of the institutional framework of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region.

Participants from the Republic of Moldova and Romania have discussed issues of mutual interest, including the initiative to create cooperation mechanisms to facilitate identification of partners in macro-regional impact projects that meet the EUSDR objectives. At the same time, the meeting agenda included topics related to transnational and cross-border cooperation within EUSDR.

Deputy Minister, Liviu Oboroc, as National Coordinator of EUSDR said that the sessions discussed the role of regional structures in attraction of European funds, strengthening governance at national and cross-border level, as well as integrated solutions for project funding were identified.

‘There have participated EUSDR National Coordinators from the Republic of Moldova and Romania, officials and experts from the ministries responsible for regional development and management of EU funds in both countries, representatives of rayons and counties from development regions and other actors involved in the implementation of the Danube Strategy ‘ outlined the Deputy Minister Liviu Oboroc .

We would like to mention, that the meeting ‘Transnational cooperation within the EU Strategy for the Danube Region’ is part of a pilot project which aims at strengthening the administrative capacity of the Republic of Moldova and Romania in the implementation of the EUSDR objectives.
