Responsibles for Water Supply and Sanitation in South Development Region, met to discuss the importance of Inter-Municipal Cooperation.

South Regional Development Agency (South RDA) in partnership with the German Development Cooperation through GIZ, within the project ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’, organized a workshop ‘Inter-municipal cooperation, development tool of local public services’.

The workshop brought together representatives of rayon councils, municipalities, water supply and sanitation service providers, representatives of territorial Ecological Inspection from SDR. The purpose of the workshop was to discuss the benefits and mechanisms for initiating inter-municipal cooperation dialogue.

GIZ experts, Ion Beschieru and Luciana Lucaciu brought concrete examples of cooperation from experience of Romania, USA, Norway, in the implementation of projects related to water supply and sanitation.

The workshop, presented information on ‘Developing public service on the basis of WSS public service management zone according to regional approaches specified in the Sector Regional Programme’ as well as ‘the need for cooperation for an efficient public service’. Also, participants were trained in a practical exercise for the identification of the necessary mechanism for initiating local dialogue to develop inter-municipal cooperation for joint WSS service provision.

LPA representatives held an interactive dialogue with specialists and experts in the field, which demonstrates their interest on the topic addressed and the importance and necessity of inter-municipal cooperation.
