Officials from 20 countries, responsible for regional development met in Chisinau today within the 4th edition of the International Cooperation Conference ‘Overcoming regional disparities’. The theme of this year is ‘Implementation of Regional Development Policy: What are the key factors for success?’

The 200 participants discussed on regional development, national perspectives, effective financing of regional development projects, as well as on regional development as a factor in creating jobs opportunities.

‘Today and tomorrow’s meeting and discussions, as well as bilateral meetings and visits prepared for guests will be fruitful and underpin the development of partnerships and concrete projects. We are honoured to have as guest ministers responsible for regional development in Latvia and the Republic of Macedonia, and colleagues from the Czech Republic, Georgia, Poland, Estonia, and Romania. While discussing on regional development policy in these countries, we see their experience in regions development and reducing regional disparities, and we will be able to make an exchange of experience in urban versus regional development’ said Marcel Raducan, the Minister of Regional Development and Construction.

The Minister, Marcel Raducan, pointed out that within working groups representatives of local public administration will achieve an exchange of best practices with counterparts from other countries on the identification and development of projects in regional development, and will know more on the models of policy, projects and programs implementation in this regard.

Thomas Weithoner, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Moldova expressed his confidence that the event will contribute with solutions to the economic growth of RM and reducing social exclusion. The official stressed the German government’s willingness to support the development of a portfolio of projects to increase investment in the Republic of Moldova. In the period 2010-2015, Germany offered RM about EUR 17 million for regional development.

To mention that the sessions of the Conference will take place over two days. After the event, guests will visit Cricova Winery and Old Orhei .

The event is organized by the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction (MRDC) with the support, including financial support, of the EU, the Government of Germany, Sweden provided through the German Development Cooperation through GIZ.
