The public institutions from Orhei rayon learn how to increase Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings

A planning and programming process in the field of Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings was launched in Orhei.

The event was organized yesterday, October 15, in cooperation with the Centre Regional Development Agency. The meeting was carried out with the support of the German Development Cooperation through GIZ, within the “Modernization of local public services in the Republic of Moldova” project.

At the working session were invited approximately 40 representatives of LPAs from Orhei rayon, representatives of RDA Centre, Orhei Rayon Council, Energy Efficiency Agency, Energy Efficiency Fund and the German Development Cooperation through GIZ.

During the event, LPA representatives from Orhei rayon were familiarized with the methodology of collecting data for drafting the “Energy efficiency in public buildings” chapter of the Socio-Economic Development Strategy and of the Program on improving energy efficiency, as well as the Action Plan on energy efficiency in public buildings of Orhei rayon.

The Centre Regional Development Agency experts presented energy efficiency projects implemented by the Centre Regional Development Agency. Orhei Hospital was mentioned as a successful example. The medical facility received funding to increase energy efficiency through KfW and German Development Cooperation through GIZ within the pilot project “Increasing energy efficiency of Orhei Regional Hospital”. It was appreciated as the Best Project implemented in the field of Energy Efficiency in the public sector for the year 2012.

Thanks to the projects implemented during the last years, the Orhei Rayon Hospital has succeeded in becoming an energy efficiency model. Beyond the fact that during the last year the institution has saved over 400 thousand MDL, the hospital has become more attractive to patients from other rayons. The medical institution is considered a model of energy management and manages to attract patients from three other neighboring rayons: Soldanesti, Rezina and Telenesti.

As a result of these meetings, it is intended to draw up the Energy Efficiency Chapter of the Orhei rayon SEDS, as well as of the Program and local Plan for improving energy efficiency in public buildings at the rayon level.
