‘The citizens of the Republic of Moldova are grateful to the German people for their contribution to modernization of local public services and further count on the support in developing regions and rural localities. We highly appreciate the assistance provided in promoting regional development policy during eight years for improvement of water and sewage infrastructure in our country, efficient waste management and projects in energy efficiency in buildings’, announced Nicolae Ciubuc, the Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment at the meeting with the ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Republic of Moldova, Her Excellency Angela Ganninger and Ulrich Kleppmann, Head of Cooperation and Economic Development Unit within the German Embassy in the Republic of Moldova. The meeting took place yesterday at the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment.

Officials discussed opportunities of bilateral cooperation extension in the fields of agriculture and food safety, as well as, in improving organisational efficiency for the development and implementation of policies in fields managed by the ministry.

The parties, also, have made an overview of regional development projects carried out with German Government support, mentioning the 10 projects in the field of water supply and sanitation and the 8 projects in the field of energy efficiency in public buildings, financed by the European Union with the support of the ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) project, implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ.

Also, reference was made to the project for improvement of water infrastructure in the Republic of Moldova financed by the German Government via the Development Bank KfW and discussions were held on development of policies and institutional framework by adopting aspects of dual vocational and educational training with GIZ support under the project on structural reform in the vocational education and training in our country. 

In the context of strengthening and extending the bilateral cooperation, the minister asked for enhanced cooperation in the fields of agriculture, rural development and food safety, improvement of organisational efficiency for the development and implementation of policies by creating a working group as a platform between the two parties. The minister, also, initiated discussions on the possibility to export organic cereals to the German market and to include the Republic of Moldova in the bilateral political and economic cooperation programmes of the Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture of the Federal Republic of Germany. Additionally, he reiterated the need of taking over the best practices in attracting investments for the modernization of animal origin products and setting up family type agricultural holdings practicing intensive production with minimum use of workforce (1-2 persons/holding).

The German Ambassador in Chisinau greeted the interest of the authorities of the Republic of Moldova to take over German experience and best practices to improve the living conditions of citizens, appreciated the bilateral cooperation over the years in implementing the regional development policy and reiterated that the German Government is ready to support further our country.
