Two waste collection trucks to be used for the collecting and transporting of garbage in Floresti, Soldanesti and Rezina rayons and 35 neighbouring localities headed today towards Floresti.
The trucks are new, their total value is around EUR 110.000, money provided by the German Government through German Development Cooperation through GIZ within the ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) project, which envisages the improvement of solid waste management system in Floresti rayon.

‘A total of 77.000 inhabitants of the micro-region will benefit from quality sanitation services.  The waste trucks have a capacity of 7m3 each and will be able to collect the waste within a wider area. The working conditions of staffers involved in the process will be improved. Prior to the procurement of the waste trucks, the garbage would be collected and loaded manually and transported with tractors to the landfill. In the following period, we intend to extend the project in order to cover the needs of around 200.000 inhabitants from the 3 rayons’, said Vasile Bitca, Minister of Regional Development and Construction, within the ceremony of handing over of the waste trucks to the sanitation company management.

Also, according to Ion Bodrug, director of North Regional Development Agency, currently, 11 municipalities from Falesti rayon set up a joint stock company which provides solid waste management services. Thus, the implementation of the project will reduce the costs incurred by the sanitation company and provide quality services to 12 municipalities from Floresti, 19 municipalities from Soldanesti and 4 municipalitites from Rezina.

The project ‘Modernization of local public services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) is implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ and is financially supported by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Swedish Government, the Romanian Government, the European Union and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
