The Orhei Rayon Hospital was visited by a delegation of German officials. The delegation included Daniel McCormack, advisor in charge for the Republic of Moldova within the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development; Ulrich Kleppmann, head of Cooperation Department in the German Embassy to the Republic of Moldova and Philipp Johannsen, country director of the German Development Cooperation through GIZ.

The goal of the event was to get insights on the status and perspectives of the ongoing cooperation between the international development partners and the administration of the Orhei Rayon Hospital regarding the achievements, challenges and lessons learned as a result of the implementation of the ‘Increasing energy efficiency in Orhei Regional Hospital’ project, launched by the Regional Development Agency (RDA) Centre in 2012 with the financial support of GIZ under the ‘Modernization of local public services in the Republic of Moldova’ project.

According to Eduard Ungureanu, interim director of the Regional Development Agency (RDA) Centre, this project was ranked as one of the best projects in energy efficiency in the public sector from the very beginning. ‘Due to the projects implemented in the last years, Orhei Rayon Hospital has managed to become a model of energy efficiency both for all public buildings from Centre Region and from entire country. Besides the fact, that every year significant savings are made, the hospital has become more attractive for patients from other rayons. Although the hospital has a rayon status, the project’s impact is a regional one. The medical institution is considered a model of energy management and attracts patients from three neighbor rayons: Soldanesti, Rezina and Telenesti’, declared the interim director of RDA Centre.

At the event, Elena Palanciuc, director of Orhei Hospital thanked the German officials for their assistance and support mentioning, that the ‘greatest achievement of these investments is the thermal comfort provided to patients’.

It is worth noting that, in 2010-2015, the German Developmetn Cooperation through GIZ allocated MDL 16.936 million for the pilot project ‘Increasing energy efficiency in Orhei Regional Hospital’ through the ‘Modernization of local public services in the Republic of Moldova’ project.
