On Wednesday, November 23, 2022, the inauguration of the rehabilitated and extended water supply network in the town of Edinet took place. The residents of Edinet were provided with quality water supply services thanks to the project ‚Construction of Water Supply and Sewerage Infrastructure and Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings’ funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the Regional Development Agency (RDA) North.

The inauguration event was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, the representative of the German Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, the management of the North RDA, representatives of the German Development Cooperation through GIZ, local public authorities, representatives of the construction company, residents of Edinet and representatives of civil society.

Thanks to this project, a 34 km-long water supply network has been rehabilitated and extended in Edinet, which, with its 2,778 connections, provides drinking water to 18,235 inhabitants of the city without interruptions.

The total value of the project is around 3.1 million Euro, of which about 2.7 million Euro – provided by the European Union and 410 000 Euro – co-financed by the Municipality of Edinet.

At the same time, with the support of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Water Operator ‚Apa-Canal Edinet’ received financial support worth 34 000 Euro, including: a laboratory equipped to monitor water quality, equipment for detecting water leaks, protective clothing and equipment for the staff. The Water Operator specialists were trained on how to manage various aspects of quality management, business planning, customer relations and further expansion of services to neighbouring municipalities.

The works to improve water supply services in the town of Edinet were carried out by the North Regional Development Agency with the EU financial support under the project ‚Construction of water supply and sewerage infrastructure and energy efficiency in public buildings’. The project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ (Moldova) in partnership with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development. The total budget of the project is 39.8 million Euro.
