Members of Regional Sector Commissions (RSC) in the field of Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS) and Solid Waste Management (SWM) participated on 6-10 August in a study visit to North-East Development Region of Romania.  The delegation was composed of members of RSC and specialists from the technical support group and visited several facilities related to WSS and SWM fields, as well as some successful projects implemented in the North-East Region of Romania.

On 6 August, the first day of the study visit, the delegation from the North of the Republic of Moldova studied the experience of water supply and sewage operator S.C. ‘ApaVital’ from Iasi and visited the wastewater treatment plant Chirita, where aspects on water supply and sewage systems were discussed. The study visits in Iasi county continued on the second day on 7 August. The delegation visited the wastewater treatment plant in Dancu and the sanitation operator S.C. ‘Salubris’ S.A. at the Municipal Waste Collection Centre in Iasi.

The third day, 8 August, was dedicated to Neamt county. In the Piatra Neamt municipality the delegation from the North of the Republic of Moldova was received by Vasile Asandei, general director of North-East Regional Development Agency (RDA).  At the meeting, the director of North-East RDA referred to a number of aspects related to programmes and projects with European funding from the North-East Region of Romania.  North-East RDA was established in 1999 to develop and implement regional policies. Further, members of RSC found out how the wastewater treatment plant in Roman municipality of Neamt county (regional operator ‘ApaServ’ S.A. Neamt), the county landfill for non-hazardous waste Girov and the ecological service operator Brantner Servicii Ecologice S.A. from Piatra Neamt operate.

On the fourth day, 9 August the delegation from the Republic of Moldova moved to Suceava county. In Gura Humorului town, the members of RSC visited the wastewater treatment plant. Later, the delegation was informed at the Suceava County Council about the implemented regional development projects. 

On the last day of the study visit, 10 August, members of RSC had the possibility to get acquainted with successful WSS and SWM projects carried out in Botosani county.  Also, the delegation from the North of the Republic of Moldova visited the drinking water treatment plant for the project implemented by SC ‘Nova Apa Serv’ S.A., situated in Camatarasti-Deal village and the integrated waste management centre from Stauceni commune.

The study visit to the North-East Development Region was organised with the support of the ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) project, implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ and in partnership with Centre regional Development Agency from Romania. The activity is foreseen as part of Activity Plan for 2018 of the Regional Sector Commissions in the WSS and SWM fields.
