It was held the second meeting of the Project’s Working Group (PWG) on solid waste management (SWM) in Development Region North (DRN), an event planned in conjunction with the North Regional Development Agency (North RDA) within the project ‚Modernization of local public services (MLPS) in the Republic of Moldova’, implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ.

By carrying out this work meetings, attended by representatives of LPA, North RDA, GIZ and NGO, the organizers sought to coordinate with PWG members the project’s progress during March – June 2014. At the same time, there were presented options for selecting land location of the landfill, the current situation on data related to waste management and the following steps have been set for the period July – December 2014.

Project’s activity between March – June focused on establishing the basis for development of possible viable project concepts, focusing on the collection and forecasting of data related to waste management and selection of sites for the location of regional landfills.

MLPS project plans the development of Feasibility study/environmental impact assessment for regional waste management systems. This work is fully supported by the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction and the Ministry of Environment and is in compliance with the regional policy and environmental protection policy promoted by both ministries.

In the composition of PWG could found representatives of rayon councils, rayon residence municipalities, rayon environmental inspections, public health centers. The first meeting of PWG was held on 12 March in Balti.

We would like to recall that in late 2013, within MLPS project there were finalized regional sector programmes (RSP) in SWM for DRN, and in February 2014 they were approved at the meeting of the Regional Development Council North.
