German Development Cooperation through GIZ has supported the representation of the Republic of Moldova at the prestigious International Partnership Forum ‘Green Ventures’, at its 18th edition. The Forum hosted the international fairs Enertec and TerraTec. The event took place in the period 26- 31 January 2015 in Leipzig, Germany. The forum gathers over 4,000 companies from more than 100 countries, specialized in the fields of water and sanitation, energy, renewable energy sources, construction and recyclable materials.

The Moldovan delegation was composed of: the representatives of Energy Efficiency Agency, Nicolae Olari and the Ministry of Environment, Tatiana Echim. However, GIZ has supported the participation of four companies in the construction and energy efficiency fields, so that they, through training and by using modern technology to be more competitive in procurements for regional development projects.

Forum’s agenda included thematic presentations and business meetings organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry from Potsdam and the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Saxony. Besides participating in seminars dedicated to advanced technologies in energy and environment, the delegates visited companies with innovative projects in Saxony: BMW factory and the Training and Demonstration Centre for Decentralized Wastewater Treatment BDZ.

The representative of the Ministry of Environment, Tatiana Echim argues that the participation in the forum gave the opportunity to know experiences that could be successfully replicated in the Republic of Moldova: ‘The experience of participating countries, especially of Germany, demonstrated an advanced level in the development of environmentally friendly technologies. It is welcomed taking over existing technologies and adapt them to the conditions of Moldova, for addressing issues of wastewater management, municipal waste management.’.

The participants also visited a town considered a model in energy efficiency – Delitsch, managing to reduce the energy consumption by 40% over the past 10 years.

GIZ also supported the representation of the Republic of Moldova at the international forum ‘Green Ventures’ in 2013.

The project ‘Modernization of local public services in the Republic of Moldova’ supports local public administrations in the expansion and modernization of local public services: water supply and sanitation, solid waste management and energy efficiency of public buildings. The support is provided through the Regional Development Agencies.

The project is implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ and is financially supported by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania and the European Union.
