There was held the second workshop entitled ‘Regional sector planning in regional and local road infrastructure (RLR) in Region North’, strategic planning work in order to identify the needs to improve regional and local roads.

The Director of RDA North, Ion Bodrug affirms thsat the efforts of the participants in today’s event will result in the possibility of obtaining EU funding, after what project sheets – the final result of regional sector planning workshops – will be ready to be submitted to European funds and presented to the interested donors.

Moderated by Maria Prisacari, a specialist in strategic issues and planning at RDA North, the workshop is divided into four sessions, during which, in the context of regional planning and programming, participants discussed the results of the first workshop and the current situation in the RLR sector. Participants also examined jointly the criteria and agreed on a common approach for identifying RLR and applied in practice criteria identified using GIS maps (geospatial data system).

‘Eugen Garlea, consultant of the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction (MRDC), emphasized the importance of regional sector planning workshops. ‘We are glad that such events have continuity’ said the representative MRDC’.

The four workshop sessions were preceded by the presentation of the current infrastructure of RLR, performed by the consultant of the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure (MTRI), Nicolae Mandra.

The workshop was attended by representatives from MRDC, MTRI, State Road Administration (SRA), members of the working group of RDN, specialists from RDA North, MLPS, SA ‘Roads’, Rayon Councils from Region North.

Project sheets will be the final outcome of regional sector planning workshops prepared to be submitted to EU funds and presented to interested donors.

Since 2012, in the Development Region North (DRN) there are organized such workshops in three areas of intervention: Water supply and sanitation (WSS), Solid waste management (SWM) and Energy Efficiency (EE). Starting 2014 there will be organized similar workshops in regional planning in Regional and Local Roads sector (RLR). For the four sectors it was created a working group (WG) each. Together with specialists from the RDA North, national and international experts, the WG will participate in the development of integrated regional sector plans. This process will be completed by the end of 2015.

Development Regions North, Center and South were, since 2010, actively involved in the initial processes of regional development, led by the Regional Development Councils (RDCs) and RDAs. This process took place within a regional policy developed by MRDC.

Regional sector planning workshops were held with the support of the European Union, offered within the project ‘Modernization of local public services in the Republic of Moldova’, managed by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ. The overall objective of the project is to improve local public services in villages and towns in the Republic of Moldova. The main beneficiary of the project is the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction (MRDC), Regional Development Agencies and Councils (RDAs and RDCs), communities from development regions of the country.
