Experts from France and Romania will support the local public authorities in our country to integrate spatial planning and regional development in a single planning framework. Thus, the representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction, Academy of Public Administration, other specialized central public authorities and I and II level LPAs met yesterday in a seminar to take over the experience of European experts and to adapt to socio-economic conditions of our country.

In this context, Liviu Oboroc, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Construction said it was important for state policies in all sectors to be well organized and good European practices will be useful in spatial planning based on social needs of our country.

“It’s a penultimate workshop under the Twinning project “Strengthening regional development capacity in Moldova”, we will learn from the experience of partner states to combine regional development with spatial planning, will analyze the regulatory framework in order to improve it and we will provide an answer to the everyday problems of local public administrations”, highlighted Liviu Oboroc in the opening speech of the meeting.

Patrick Noddings, the EU project leader, co-chair of the Twinning Board, said that the Moldovan authorities had made progress by decisions to provide General Urban Plans to all localities of the country and by the intention to attract development partners in developing them.

The experts underlined that throughout the year, together with the MRDC and LPA representatives, they had analyzed this problem, identified solutions and visited regions where they had held consultations with the authorities on the presented proposals. Also during the meeting the experts presented suggestions on how these two components – spatial planning and regional development – can be developed in a single planning framework, and established a new roadmap for 2014 for the purpose of developing an integrated planning framework.
