In Duruitoarea Veche, the coming of the spring was marked by the launch of the second stage of sewerage networks construction works carried out within the ‘Improvement of water and sanitation services in Riscani Rayon’ project. The pilot project implemented by the Regional Development Agency North (RDA) and supported by German Development Cooperation (GIZ) commenced in 2011. In the first stage of pilot project implementation, Duruitoarea Veche inhabitants came by a drinking water supply centralised system and a constructed portion of sewerage networks. The integral construction of the sewerage system became possible due to the extension of funding for this project by the German Government.

At the end of last week, RDA North and GIZ representatives together with the mayor of Costesti town and local project manager made a site visit to monitor the carrying out of the works which began on 25 February 2016.  Thus, it was found that 2,3 km of under gravity sewerage networks out of the planned 4 km have been already constructed.  The construction of another 2,5 km of under pressure networks is on its way.

The works are executed according to the schedule agreed in the works contract. However, during the execution and upon consulting the direct beneficiaries, the relevance of making certain adjustments in the technical design was determined in order to optimize the used resources and satisfy the service consumers’ preferences.

Once the pilot project is implemented, new conditions of connecting all households from Duruitoarea Veche village to sewerage services will be created.

The pilot project ‘Improvement of water and sanitation services in Riscani Rayon’ is implemented by RDA North and financially supported by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania and the European Union, through the ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) project, managed by GIZ. According to MLPS, the total value of the pilot project from Riscani Rayon is EUR 1.117.306 (including, German investments – EUR 1.103.431, local contribution – EUR 13.875).
