Representatives of local public authorities (LPAs) in the Center Development Region (CDR) met today in a public consultation meeting to discuss the Regional Sector Programme (RSP) on Regional and Local Roads Infrastructure (RLR) for Center Development Region. This strategic document is to be approved at the meeting of the Center Regional Development Council (Center RCD) which will take place on 31 March.

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction (MRDC), Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure (MTRI), State Chancellery, experts from the project ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in Moldova’ (MLPS), managed by German Development Cooperation through GIZ, specialists from the Center Regional Development Agency (Center RDA) and representatives of LPA levels I and II.

At the opening of the public consultation meeting, the director of Center RDA, Tudor Mesina, thanked the representatives of the region for active participation and responsible attitude in the development of RSP on RLR, a very important document for the region. ‘The project’s RSP was placed on the Agency’s website and sent to all stakeholders, allowing each of them to submit proposals for improvement, for which we are grateful. On 31 March we proposed to present this document to the members of the Center Regional Development Council for approval. This document must produce beneficial effects for the region, so the involvement of the working group’s members is very important and only together, through cooperation, we managed to developed a quality document’, added the Agency’s director.

Dorin Andros, who represented MRDC, said that a huge volume of work was done during the previous year, in order to develop a document that is one of great value for the Center Region. ‘After its approval by the Center RDC we will perform other activities, such as identifying and developing project proposals. Today we conduct a very important activity for the CDR, which was possible only with the active involvement of responsible representatives of the region. Therefore, I urge you to continue sending your suggestions and ideas for improvement, in order for us to adopt a quality and practical document’, said the ministry’s representative.

MLPS representatives David Toft and Stela Corobceanu referred to the role of the strategic document put into question today for the CDR, presenting a retrospective of the two stages of development of RSP. At the same time, Marina Preteca-Neaga, specialist in strategic planning and programming at Center RDA, outlined the structure and objectives of the SRP project on RLR infrastructure. The presentation was followed by a panel discussion.

Today’s public consultation meeting was preceded by four workshops, which underlay the development of the strategic document for CDR and whose main outcome are project sheets prepared in order to apply for European funds and presented to donors willing to invest in the Center Region.

So far, the Center Regional Development Council approved three RSP on solid waste management (SWM), energy efficiency in public buildings (EE) and water supply and sanitation.

All regional sector planning activities were held with the financial support of the European Union provided under the MLPS project managed by GIZ.  The project aims to improve local public services in villages and towns of the Republic of Moldova. The main beneficiary of the project is the MRDC, RDAs and RDCs, as well as communities in the country’s development regions.
