On Friday, 17 August at Edinet Rayon Council the public consultations were organised on the draft chapter ‘Water and Sanitation’ of the Socio-Economic Development Strategy, developed under the ‘Improvement of water supply and sanitation services in Edinet municipality’ project, funded by the European Union.

The event was attended by local public authorities level I and chairmen of speciality commissions of Edinet Rayon Council, members of Local Group for Strategic Planning, the water utilities operator, representatives of non-governmental organisations and civil society from Edinet rayon, the GFA/GIZ team of experts and Business Consulting Institute.

During the public consultations on the ‘Water and Sanitation’ chapter from the mentioned strategy the findings of the diagnostic analysis regarding the development of the Water-Sanitation sector of the rayon for 2018-2025 were presented. Additionally, the participants discussed and agreed the updated structure of the ‘Water and Sanitation’ chapter from the Socio-Economic Development Strategy of Edinet rayon.

The draft chapter ‘Water and Sanitation from the mentioned Strategy will be presented at the meeting of Edinet Rayon Council for final approval.  At the Edinet Rayon Council, a working group will be created to monitor the implementation of this chapter.

The project ‘Improvement of water supply and sanitation services in Edinet municiplality’ is financed by the European Union in cooperation with the ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ project implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment and North RDA and financially supported by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Swedish Government, Romanian Government and Swiss Agency for Economic Development and Cooperation (SDC). As a result of project implementation, the water supply networks from Edinet will be extended by 4,5 km and 22,9 km will be rehabilitated. Over 3.300 inhabitants of Edinet municipality shall be connected to the water supply system.
