During 19-26 July 2017, the regional Kick-off meetings for the implementation of the EU financed Action to be carried out under the ‚Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) project took place. They follow the signing of the Grant Agreement between the German Development Cooperation through GIZ and the Delegation of the European Union (EU) in the Republic of Moldova on the ‘Preparation of technical design and tender documentation for construction works of selected Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS) and Energy Efficiency (EE) projects in three Development Regions of the Republic of Moldova’.
The event was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction (MRDC), Regional Development Councils (RDC), Regional Development Agencies, project beneficiaries, presidents of beneficiary rayons, as well as, mayors of beneficiary localities, local project managers and MLPS project.
At the meetings the implementation modality for projects with EU funding via MLPS Project, RDAs and Local Public Authorities (LPA) was presented together with the related legal aspects, monitoring and reporting measures, implementation manual and structure of implementation team. Also, the verification results concerning the viable project concepts and their current status were shown. These projects will be carried out in two phases: Phase I – for development of technical designs and tender documentation and Phase II – for infrastructure physical implementation.
Dietrich Hahn, MLPS International Senior Advisor mentioned that, as a result of project’s implementation the concrete results for the population will be the most important thing. ‘This project targets two priority fields and namely: quality water supply and sanitation, as well as energy efficiency services’, specified Dietrich Hahn.
It is to be mentioned, that the total budget of Phase I is EUR 3.5 million provided by European Union and EUR 325.000 – by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The implementation period is 18 months.
The technical documentation which will be prepared by this project will permit to start concrete investments in 2018 in Water Supply and Sanitation and Energy Efficiency in public buildings sectors, in the Regions of the Republic of Moldova.
