On 11 December 2017, in the municipality of Ugheni the official handing of two trucks to the municipal enterprises ‘Apa-Canal’ Ungheni and ‘AVE’ Ungheni took place. The trucks were granted to the town hall of Ungheni by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ under the ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) project and will have the purpose of collecting solid waste and maintaining water supply and sanitation networks.

The event was attended by the representatives of local public administrations level I and II; Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MARDE); Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Moldova; Centre Regional Development Agency (RDA); management of MLPS project, as well as, citizens of Ungheni town.

Alexandru Ambros, mayor of Ungheni town: ‘On behalf of all the citizens of the municipality I would like to sincerely thank the German people for these trucks. We, in turn, assume the responsibility to use them efficiently and according to their purpose… Considering that the two municipal operators ‘Apa-Canal’ Ungheni and ‘AVE’ Ungheni will soon become regional operators, these trucks will help us provide quality services not only for the town, but also cover other localities and even neighbouring rayons’.

Ludmila Guzun, President of Ungheni rayon: ‘The event today is the result of an efficient cooperation between LPA Ungheni and GIZ. I would like, also, to express my thanks for your support, help and trust. An efficient waste collecting system, as well as modernised water supply and sanitation services are basic needs of the population in Ungheni rayon’.

Her Excellency, Julia Monar, the Ambassador of the German Federal Republic to the Republic of Moldova: ‘We are glad we can help the citizens of the Republic of Moldova by providing these two trucks. Quality water supply and sanitation, solid waste management and energy efficiency in public buildings are the main fields in which GIZ operates in the Republic of Moldova.  For the future, we aim to provide continuing support in these sectors together with other partners, as the European Union’.

Dorin Andros, Secretary of State, MARDE: ‘Without quality water supply services, sewage systems and waste collecting, there is no fair standard of living. In this context, Madam Ambassador I would like to thank you on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Moldova for the support provided both to the Centre Regional Development Agency and to other Development Regions of the country. I would like, also, to express thanks to GIZ, in particular to the MLPS project, as they are the ones we work together with on a daily basis in developing documents and implementing regional development projects’.

The total cost of both trucks is around MDL 3.7 million and initially approx. 60.000 inhabitants of Ungheni rayon will benefit from the services provided by them.
