On Saturday, 20 May 2023, the inauguration of the European Union-funded project on increasing energy efficiency in the ‘Constantin Spataru’ Theoretical Lyceum took place in Leova. The event was attended by the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, the German Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, the management of the South Regional Development Agency (South RDA), GIZ Moldova Country Director, local public authorities, representatives of the construction company, residents of Leova and civil society representatives.

‘Constantin Spataru’ Theoretical Lyceum was renovated and improved its energy efficiency following 15 investment measures. Thus, the envelope of the building was insulated, the building was provided with renewable energy by installing photovoltaic panels, the lyceum and its surrounding area were illuminated. The lyceum premises were provided with ventilation and fire-fighting systems as well as sanitary inventory, also an access way for people with special needs was built, the institution’s kitchen was upgraded and provided with technical equipment.

The total value of the ‘Increasing Energy Efficiency of ‘Constantin Spataru’ Theoretical Lyceum project in the town of Leova’ is about 3.16 million Euro, of which 3.030 million Euro is granted by the European Union and almost 130.000 Euro – co-financing from the Leova Rayon Council and Leova City Hall. As a result of project implementation, the annual normalized energy consumption at the Leova Theoretical Lyceum has been reduced by about 1000 MWh (-63%), and the annual normalized CO2 emissions – by 387 tons (-63%).

The investment measure ‘Increasing Energy Efficiency of ‘Constantin Spataru’ Theoretical Lyceum in the town of Leova’ is funded by the European Union and implemented by South RDA under the ‘Construction of water supply and sanitation infrastructure as well as energy efficiency in public buildings’ project. The project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ (Moldova) in partnership with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIRD). The total budget of the project is 39.8 million Euro.
