On September 24, experts of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) discussed about Moldovan flood protection system at the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction.

Liviu Oboroc, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Construction, National Coordinator of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region discussed with experts responsible for promoting initiatives under priority 4 (Recovery and  maintenance of water quality) and 5 (Management of environmental risks) in Moldova, Hungary and Romania about the study of EUSDR member countries on floods in our country to intervene with the information necessary to complete the study.

“The objective of the meeting was to create an overview on flood protection system in our country. We also discussed the institutional and legal framework, the responsibilities of the institutions involved in flood management, as well as the practical experience in the field to integrate the data in the study dev4loped by  EUSDR experts” said Deputy Minister Liviu Oboroc. Also, the Deputy Minister Oboroc stressed the particular importance of these priorities to the safety and quality of human life.

The agenda of the discussions also included issues related to methods for flood of forecasting and monitoring, networking and cooperation of neighboring riparian states in this regard.

During the discussion participants noted some similarities in flood management and the need to ensure the interoperability of networks and coordination arrangements in all 14 countries participating in the implementation of EUSDR, where experts conducted the study.

Thus, the representatives of the Ministry of Environment, the State Hydrometeorological Service and the Agency “Apele Moldovei”, present at the meeting, expressed their willingness to cooperate in development of concrete projects under various international and cross-border programs.
