On the 14th of March, 2014, the German Development Cooperation through GIZ has awarded three diplomas to mayors from partner-localities for outstanding commitment and support of inter-municipal cooperation within pilot projects:

  • Mayor of Cahul city, Petru Burlacu – project “Improvement of water and sanitation services in Cahul “
  • Mayor of Soldanesti city, Alexandru Tinică and Mayor of Floresti city, Grigore Cojocaru – project “Improvment of solid waste management services in Soldanesti, Rezina and Floresti rayons”.

The awarding ceremony of diplomas took place in the context of thematic meeting “Local public administration – the main pillar for ensuring success in the country’s modernization and European integration”, organized by the State Chancellery and the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova.

GIZ approach is to actuate inter-municipal cooperation, so as neighboring localities to provide joint services, as to increase efficiency and to optimize costs.

The project “Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova” is implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ and is financially supported by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania and the European Union.
