On 30 April 2015, the Balti town hosted the 6th workshop on implementation of the Regional Sector Programme (RSP) for Energy Efficiency (EE) in public buildings. The meeting initially focused on discussing the current situation in the development of viable project concepts (VPCs) selected for implementation in the North Development Region (NDR).

Advisors from the German Development Cooperation through GIZ have introduced to workshop participants the plan of activities for VPC development. Discussions further focused on identifying financing sources for such projects, as well as on the dialogue with potential donors. An overview of the progress in developing the five VPCs selected for the NDR in Falesti, Sangerei, Edinet, Rascani and Balti rayons was also presented.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction (MRDC), the Ministry of Economy and the North RDA, as well as by energy managers and GIZ experts.

The workshops are organized within the ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in Moldova’ project, intervention area 2: Regional Planning and Programming, which aims at supporting the MRDC and RDAs’ in EE regional planning efforts in the country’s development regions. These activities are carried out with the support of the Swedish Government.

It should be noted that on 13 February 2014, the North Regional Development Council has approved the Regional Sector Programme for Energy Efficiency (public buildings). The document is an operational tool for regional planning that will enhance LPAs’ capacity in developing sustainable regional projects and will create conditions for developing the energy efficiency projects within the NDR.
