The first meeting of the working groups (WG) in Solid waste management (SWM) in Development Region South. The event was organized by the Regional Development Agency South (RDA South) in cooperation with the German Development Cooperation through GIZ and the Czech Development Agency.

The objective of the meeting was to coordinate the action plan of the team of experts in waste management for the years 2014-2015, who will develop the action plan on the feasibility study for the three subregions of DRS , identified in the Integrated Solid Waste Management Strategy:

– Subregion Cahul, Cantemir, Taraclia, where the feasibility study will be conducted with the support of GIZ;

– Subregion Cimislia, Basarabeasca, Leova

and

– Subregion Cauşeni, Stefan Voda, where the feasibility study will be conducted with the support of the Embassy of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Moldova.

Regional sector working group consisted of representatives of rayon Councils in the region, Municipal Enterprise responsible for the waste sector of eight cities – rayon centers.

Relevant central bodies were represented by the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction and the Ministry of Environment.

In this context, was identified the role of the Regional Sector Working Group (RSWG) as responsible for monitoring the preparation of the feasibility study, and the Project Working Group (PWG) will participate directly with the experts in collecting data needed for the activity, ensure communication between LPA and experts, will provide information and awareness of the local population.

Similarly, GIZ experts Tamara Guvir and Ciprian Popovici, presented “Actors’ responsibilities for implementing the action plan for 2014-2015”.

It follows wider involvement of LPA from the Region South, in the development of feasibility study to get a quality product that will be the basis of attracting investment projects in Solid Waste Management sector and will be a tool for negotiations with donors to implement them.

We would like to reiterate that, this activity is fully supported by the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction and the Ministry of Environment, and comes under regional policy and that of environment protection, promoted by both ministries.
