During September 21 – 23 2015 in Chisinau takes place the fourth round of consultations of the working group on drafting the National Strategy for Regional Development (NSRD) 2020. During three days of meetings, representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction (MRDC), German Development Cooperation through GIZ and Polish experts from the Ministry of Instrastructurii and Development of Poland (MIDP) will discuss the draft NSRD 2020.

During the first part of today, 21 September, the parties involved in the development of NSRD 2020 held a meeting within the Academy of Public Administration of Moldova (APA) where they discussed the experience of Poland, MRDC and APA in implementing regional development policy and capacity development in the field. In the second part of the day, the working meeting of experts continued within MRDC with presentation of the progress in developing NSRD 2020 and the evaluation and monitoring results-based indicators in the implementation of NSRD 2020.

Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Construction, Anatol Usatii thanked the experts and the Polish Delegation for support and assistance in drafting NSRD 2020 and noted that ‘this document is awaited both by partners, and the entire population. Also, a very important element is the evaluation of strategies developed during 2010-2015. This will help us identify strengths and weaknesses in order to improve the new document’.

Piotr Zygadlo, Deputy Head of Development policies and strategies coordination Directorate of MIDP expressed certainty that ‘this Strategy will be a very good one and will be considered by the European Union countries’.

Alexandr Muravschi, GIZ National Leading Policy Advisor on Regional and Local Development mentioned about the effectiveness of the group of experts who worked on the draft NSRD 2020 and thanked for assistance and advice the Polish experts of the MIDP and mentioned that ‘there follows public consultations on the new document and its approval’.

The 4th round of consultations on the development of NSRD 2020 will continue tomorrow, 22 September 2015, when is planned the inter-ministerial working group meeting, where will be presented the draft document and also the evaluation report of the strategies for 2010 – 2015. The consultation will end on Wednesday, 23 September; with a meeting will be presented the conclusions and recommendations of the consultations.

The activities related to the development of NSRD 2020 are conducted within the project ‘Support to local public administration from the Republic of Moldova in the development of National Strategy for Regional Development 2020 ‘. National Strategy for Regional Development is the main document for regional development planning, reflecting the national policy and determines national mechanisms in this area. The current Strategy for 2013-2015 outlines the prospects for regional development in Moldova and defines the instruments and mechanisms for achieving strategic goals.
