A Swedish delegation headed by Henrik Huitfeldt, Counsellor, Head of Development Cooperation, Embassy of Sweden in Chisinau, had a study visit to the interregional project ‘Improvement of integrated solid waste management in Soldanesti, Rezina and Floresti rayon’.

Guests were documented on the current situation of this project’s implementation.

The Swedish delegation undertook this visit in order to see the results of the initiative to optimize waste management, which is implemented with the support of the German Government, provided through the GIZ project ‘Modernization of local public services in the Republic of Moldova’. GIZ project is co-financed by the Government of Sweden with EUR 5.5 million grants for regional planning and programming.

The delegation was accompanied by Valerian Bînzaru, head of the Directorate General for Regional Development within the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction, representatives of Center RDA, GIZ, the State Ecological Inspectorate and local public authorities of level I and II.

The Center Regional Developmental Agency started the implementation of this project in 2010. Starting with 2014 Center RDA will continue its activities across Rezina and Soldanesti rayons. On the territory of Floresti rayon, the project will be monitored by North RDA.

Initially, after the project’s implementation, about 77,000 people will benefit from a common SWM. Subsequently, it is expected the expansion of the project to cover the needs of 200,000 people in the three rayons.
