During 21-22 May 2014 in Chisinau will be held the fourth edition of the International Cooperation Conference ‘Overcoming regional disparities’. The theme of this year is ‘Implementing Regional Development Policies: What are the key factors for success?.

The event will be attended by representatives of the Government and the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, officials from EU institutions, officials of the ministries responsible for regional development in the EU Member States, representatives of international institutions and practitioners from the neighbourhood, candidate, accession and EU countries.

The international Conference is a platform for exchange of experiences related to the development of regions, including best practices and lessons learned, among the decision-makers and practitioners and a modality to encourage the launch of initiatives which shall enable effective implementation of the regional development policy at countries’ level.

‘In the context of European integration aspirations, this wide scope conference will provide non-EU countries, implementation patterns of regional development policies and cooperation between authorities at different levels, and will be an opportunity for establishing partnerships to promote the policy in the area. EU is a strategic partner in this regard, even if the Republic of Moldova and other countries in the region are not benefiting from EU cohesion policy. EU provides models, mechanisms and support to promote policies, programmes and projects in regional development in order to reduce disparities nationwide. We are honoured to have as guest ministers responsible for regional development in Latvia and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and colleagues from the Czech Republic, Georgia, Poland, Estonia, and Romania. We will discuss on regional development policy in these countries, see the experience of these countries in regions’ development and reducing disparities at regional level, as well as make an exchange of experience in urban versus regional development’ said the Minister of regional development and construction, Marcel Raducan.

The event is organized by the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction (MRDC) with the support, including financial support of EU, Government of Germany, and Sweden offered through the German Development Cooperation through GIZ.

Previous editions were held in Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro.
