On 16 July 2015 under the third round of consultations on the development of NSRD 2020 was held the meeting of the inter-ministerial working group. The event was held at the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction (MRDC) and was attended by representatives of the State Chancellery of the Republic of Moldova, Ministry of Transport and Roads Infrastructure, Regional Development Agencies, Tourism Agency, Academy of Public Administration, German Development Cooperation through GIZ and the delegation of experts of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development of Poland and the Warsaw School of Economics, Poland.

In the opening session, Igor Malai, deputy head of the Directorate General for Regional Development of MRDC and moderator of the working group, thanked those present and made a brief summary of the activities that occurred in the first two rounds of consultations that took place in May and June in Chisinau. Also, Igor Malai noted that ‘during the drafting of NSRD 2020 are analyzed and evaluated previous strategies, this is the only possibility to have a qualitative, efficient document to be appropriate both for planning and our expectations’.

The national expert, Veaceslav Bulat, made a general presentation of the first draft of NSRD 2020 and said that ‘the vision of the new document, that we are discussing and analyzing today, is to build, by 2020, a balanced and sustainable development of the development regions of the country by capitalizing the socio-economic and environmental potential’.

Angela Dumitraşco, GIZ Advisor on Results Based Monitoring, Evaluation and Management stressed that ‘the notion of balanced regions and territorial cohesion is an essential one for the group of experts and it accompanied them during their activity, especially when they formulated the objectives for the new strategy’.

In the second part of the event, the Polish experts Daniel Balinska and Tomasz Kot presented the tools on the implementation of NSRD referring to territorial contract and strategic monitoring mechanisms and Alexandru Platon, senior consultant of Architecture, design, urbanism and regional planning Department from MRDC, presented details of the chapter on spatial and territorial development. Working Group Meeting ended with a questions and answers session.

During 14-17 July 2015 in Chisinau is held a new round of consultations of the working group on the development of NSRD 2020. During four days of meetings, representatives of ministries of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, the German Development Cooperation through GIZ and Polish experts from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development of Poland discuss the first draft of NSRD 2020.

The National Strategy for Regional Development is the main document for regional development planning, reflecting national policy and determining national mechanisms in this area. The current Strategy for 2013-2015 outlines the prospects for regional development in Moldova and defines the instruments and mechanisms for achieving strategic objectives.
