The workshop was attended by participants from Regional Development Agencies (RDAs), local public administrations (LPAs), rayon energy managers, national and international experts as well as the management and GIZ/MLPS advisors. The event served as a platform to exchange experience, knowledge and practices between national and international experts and specialists.

Christina Otto, GIZ/MLPS project manager: ‘Energy efficiency is one of key sectors of MLPS project. We focus more on energy efficiency in public buildings. In this way, we provided support to our national partners in the development of Regional Sector Programmes in EE field in the North, Centre, South and most recently in Gagauzia. This year, the implementing of 8 projects in the EE field begins with the financial support of the European Union. The objective of these projects is to increase energy efficiency in the educational institutions in localities of the Republic of Moldova’.

Alexandru Ciudin, AEE director: ‘This workshop is very important for the energy sector. I am sure this kind of events organised and supported by development partners could become real platforms to find solutions for challenges in this field’.

Lilian Frunze, energy manager, Ungheni Rayon Council: ‘This kind of workshops are more than welcome, especially since we, as a country, import over 75% of energy and we have to learn to save it and decrease the related losses. Also, it is appropriate to learn from the experience of other countries in this field’.

In the first part of the workshop, the experts from AEE, the Covenant of Mayors and international ones spoke about the legal framework of the Republic of Moldova regarding the participatory planning in the EE field and how the Action Plans on sustainable energy should be developed.

The second part of the event focused on the presentation of study cases regarding experience and practices in the EE field from other countries like Germany, Latvia, Macedonia and Croatia. International experts from the mentioned countries shared with the participants information on the legal framework, planning and financial possibilities at local and regional level in the EE field from these countries.
