Ministry of Regional Development and Construction (MRDC) assessed the impact and sustainability of the project ‘Supporting private sector development and attracting investments process in the North Development Region by building water and sewerage networks for subzone no. 3 of the Free Economic Zone ‘Balti’’, developed by North Regional Development Agency.

In this regard, specialists of the MRDC and advisors from the German Development Cooperation through GIZ have produced a report on the project impact assessment, according to the evaluation criteria of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

The speakers noted that the project concerned is relevant and meets the interests of target groups, noting that the full success of the project will depend on the ability of local authorities to promote FEZ ‘Balti’ at all levels, by collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and potential investors. The speakers also noted that there was an inefficient collaboration between the City hall of Balti, beneficiary of the project with its partners, which caused partial failure to achieve the expected results and objectives.

The report is to be sent to Balti City Hall, in order to take measures to ensure the project’s sustainability and impact proposed in application for financing.

In 2011-2012, in FEZ ‘Balti’ was developed the project ‘Connecting FEZ ‘Balti’ to municipal utilities: water, sanitation, electricity, access roads’.

In the period 2011-2014, in FEZ ‘Balti’ was invested within two regional development projects, about MDL 28 million from the National Fund for Regional Development.
